Don’t just take our word for it, find out why our alumni think Board of Barristers is so great:

Darryl Vereen, ’92

“Nothing prepared me better for the practice of law than the advocacy training made possible by the Board of Barristers. Participation in Board competitions and the guidance I received from my classmates and coaches was the best  part of my legal education, and I still use the skills I developed there every day in my practice.”

Darryl Vereen is an attorney at Mounce, Green, Myers, Safi, Paxson & Galatzan, P.C., which sponsors our 1L moot court competition. Mr. Vereen maintains a large and diverse regional litigation practice, representing clients in all types of commercial, construction and insurance claims, with an emphasis on the defense of personal injury, employer liability, and trucking and transportation-related claims.

M.C. Carrington, ’82

“My membership on the Board as well as participation in the various competitions were instrumental in creating a foundation that allowed me to be successful as a young lawyer. I gained the confidence to know what I was doing during my initial court appearances as a new lawyer. I recommend that any law student participate in Board competitions and actually aspire to become a member of the Board, as I assure them it will be a worthwhile experience that will help them after graduation.”

Mr. Carrington joined MehaffyWeber, the sponsor of our 1L Mock Trial competition, upon graduation from Texas Tech in 1982. Mr. Carrington has tried over 40 cases in the last 9 years with many of those trials resulting in favorable verdicts for his clients. His areas of expertise include toxic tort litigation, products liability, premises liability, premises security, commercial litigation and employment discrimination.

Christopher L. Jensen, ’96

“My activities with the Board of Barristers provided an opportunity to practice what I was going to do after graduation. With these activities under my belt, I had confidence early in my career every time I entered the courtroom.”

Christopher L. Jensen is a shareholder with Sprouse Shrader Smith, P.C., where his practice areas focus on commercial litigation, appellate law, power and utilities, and oil, gas and natural resources litigation.

Mr. Jenson represents corporate and individual clients in litigation, civil appeals and commercial disputes.
